USGBC’s Emerging Professionals convened at WasteCap’s Warehouse for their Spring Social on Wednesday, May 17th. The group arrived promptly at 5:30 PM where they were greeted by WasteCap’s Executive Director, Travis Blomberg. After filling their cups with Enlightened Brewing Company’s latest American Pale Ale, attendees were given a tour of the warehouse. Deconstruction and Salvage Manager, Kevin Fogle pointed out interesting finds including a gazebo that was once featured at the 1893 World’s Columbian Exhibition.
The association was also joined by the Green Veterans, an organization dedicated to utilizing sustainability as a tool to help veterans transition to civilian life. In addition to their reintegration efforts, Green Veterans focuses on sustainability training, veteran-oriented service projects and trauma resolution through green buildings.
“USGBC Wisconsin was proud to partner with WasteCap Resource Solutions for our Emerging Professionals’ (EP) Spring Social,” said USGBC Director of Community Advancement - Wisconsin and Iowa, Korinne Haeffel. “Showcasing the outstanding work that WasteCap does to reduce impacts associated with waste was a natural fit as we continue to try to introduce our EPs to organization’s who excel within the green building industry.”
After grabbing another round of beer as well as some sandwiches and Purple Door Ice Cream, the attendees gathered to network and discuss the green building industry.
The event ended with a final word from WasteCap’s executive director as well as plans to meet again.
“The USGBC Emerging Professionals - Green Drinks Event was a quintessential activity for us,” said Blomberg. “As an Emerging Professional (EP), it was wonderful to share the WasteCap story with fellow EPs, connect with other organizations, and reach out to the broader community. There was tremendous buzz at the event and we look forward to doing more events like this in the future."
