WasteCap Celebrates Earth Day with Marquette Volunteers

For Earth Day 2017, WasteCap Resource Solutions welcomed a tenacious group of students from Marquette University to volunteer as part of the school’s annual Hunger Clean-Up program.

The students kicked off their enthusiastic efforts on a beautiful Saturday morning. Our executive director escorted the eager group through the retail warehouse while speaking about the WasteCap's mission and the history of a few unique finds.

Then, the team moved to the side yard to flex their muscles. Along with the help and supervision of the WasteCap staff, volunteers brought new life to lumber salvaged from a turn of the century home. Volunteers pulled nails, stacked lumber and cut reclaimed wood for resale at the architectural salvage warehouse. The students' efforts helped support the retail operation and preserve  the history of old Milwaukee homes

"I was impressed with the Marquette students' positive attitudes, friendliness, and strong backs," said Travis Blomberg, Executive Director. "The team was a bit shy when they arrived; however, that quickly changed after the safety orientation. Once the students got tools in their hands they were ready to work, laugh, and have a great time. It didn't hurt that we had plenty of snacks, water, and solid tunes. I'd like to thank the Hunger Clean-Up program and the students for a job well done."
