A Non-Profit Transforming Waste into Resources Menu

Johnson Controls Families Visit WasteCap

Last week, WasteCap Resource Solutions welcomed 31 Johnson Controls employees and family members. This year, Johnson Controls combined their annual Earth Day festivities with Take Your Child to Work Day to create a fun, family-oriented day filled with lessons on sustainability and giving back.

The event kicked off with a tour of WasteCap’s Architectural Salvage Warehouse after which, the families were led upstairs to the tool room where they were given project instructions. The group was divided into two teams and parents began to guide the kids through the activities. One group made trendy planter boxes, while the other group created beautiful art pieces with paint and spindles. Both groups utilized reclaimed materials that WasteCap had previously saved from the landfill during salvage projects.

The kids spent two hours painting, laughing and planting with their parents. After the event was up and the kids had placed their masterpieces on drying racks, the group gathered for one last photo before departing.

“As a local, environmental nonprofit, we love opportunities to engage the community in ways that foster connections while positively impacting our planet,” said Loren Rowley, Volunteer Coordinator for WasteCap Resource Solutions. “Kids were able to transform old barn beams into unique planters that will be later used in a fundraising activity. They also created colorful works of art that will bring much needed color into the warehouse.”
